Vermont Fall with the Prices and Gordon Conference in Vermont
New England falls are next levels here, and what better place to enjoy the autumn breeze than exploring Vermont?! It all just feels so fall-y! You got your flannel, your farms, your maple syrup, your pumpkins, and of course, lots of trees everywhere covered in a beautiful array of yellows, oranges, and reds. So we dragged some of the Price team out to Vermont with us to celebrate fall break (My Brothers Brian and Thomas couldn't make it).
We started the trip out with a hike (longer than expected due to negligence and an unnecessary work call taken by our navigator, Nathan- I'm not at all still bitter it prevented us from making our train ride through the mountains). But there were from beautiful views, and next, we stopped at flume gorge to see a beautiful waterfall. Then we finished our drive at our destination, Burlington. First, we went to Barnyard, a restaurant we went to on our first trip to Burlington (twice). Didn't quite live up to our memories of it after a 45-minute wait. Then we made it to our lake house, right next to Lake Champlain and about a 25-minute drive from the city. Zeus loved the house most of all because of all the yard space.
We went to the farmer's market in Burlington, where I tried as many maple things as I could get my hands on (which is a lot) and there was a man making giant bubbles that Abby and Elliott (and all the adults) were mesmerized by.
We also visited a maple syrup farm where we watched two old men give a hilarious presentation in the way that only two old maple farmers could about how to make maple syrup. We drove through several covered bridges, went to Ben and Jerry's, then we went to the Vermont store on the way home after a beautiful drive through the mountains to see the foliage.
We really loved having family enjoy our neck of the woods with us and we're grateful our last New England fall could be spent with such a picturesque background.
I also spent a week in Vermont in August for the Gordon Research Conference, this time in a resort. It was an awesome conference because it was small in comparison to others I've been to, so instead of choosing between several ongoing presentations and being among thousands of other scientists, there were only a few hundred of us and we all attended every presentation. I also got to spend the first few days there just with other students and postdocs and the whole thing was on Epilepsy so it felt much more focused than previous conferences I've been to.
I went a couple days early to the conference and brought Nathan and Elliott so we could enjoy a day together at a petting farm and exploring the area a bit, all while allowing me a to see Elliott a little longer before I had to be apart from him for so long.

Apparently, the lobster ravioli was also pretty good. Kids got fancy palate, what can I say |

These Maple Milkshakes were a fave the first time we visited, so we had to bring everyone to check it out. We may have over-hyped them a little bit |

Did a little painting class for one of the breaks at the conference... I'm a first timer so I was a little proud |
