Acadia National Park Babymoon

Cadillac Mountain Vista
A few weeks ago, Nate and I made a weekend trip out of one of his work assignments to Maine.  We spent most of our time on Mount Desert Island, spending lots of time in Acadia National Park and visiting the nearby beach towns. The park was BEAUTIFUL, it is an amazing combination of fresh water lakes, mountains, and completely surrounded by the ocean.  Lots of smaller islands can be seen as well. Nathan has visited before when he was younger with his family, but it was my first time!  I can't wait to visit again in the fall when all the green turns to autumn colors.

The first night we arrived we got there just in time to drive up Cadillac Mountain, the tallest on the island, to see the sunset.  The next day we hiked Precipice Trail, which was freaky but amazing, it is basically climbing up a cliff face, but it has enough of an incline that instead of using climbing equipment, they just have lots of ladders.  Once we got to the top, we used the easy way down to travel back to the bottom. It was super fun, and I'm glad we did it before baby, because there is no way to do that hike with a child until they are a teenager. The view from the top, Champlain Mountain, was gorgeous also.

Then we enjoyed some famous Jordan House Pond popovers and lunch overlooking a pond. We also hiked to a great fire tower lookout spot that gave us a 360 view around the entire island. Unfortunately, the steep hiking enflamed Nathan's chronic knee issues so we didn't do much more hiking, but there was lots of pretty lookouts and views from the car as well. One of my favorite parts was also driving through the towns to look at all the gorgeous homes in the harbor towns outside the park.

We got to enjoy Maine Blueberries fresh from the trail, as well as jam, syrup, and even soda.  Neither of us splurged on the lobster, but most of the food we had was great! With one exception, we went to a Mexican restaurant run by extremely non-latino hipsters.  The name of the restaurant was el el frijoles. I didn't get the joke until hours later... L. L. Bean, which is a Maine-based outdoor clothing company that us Northeasterners are pretty obsessed with. I just thought they had exceptionally bad Spanish grammar....We also explored Bar Harbor shops, kept ourselves from spending 35 on cute lobster baby pajamas, and went to a comedy Improv show.

On the way home I wanted some ice cream badly enough that we drove probably 30 minutes out of the way to find a good place, it didn't disappoint, but we each had to throw away half since they were so massive!

Also, we found out the next week at our ultrasound that baby Hixson is a boy!  We are so excited! I've always not-so-secretly wanted a boy first.  Plus when we were in the office, Nate and I placed a bet that I won, so he had to do the dishes that night. Win, Win. He is going to be the first grandson on both sides of our family, so he is already being thoroughly spoiled!
