#PricesDoSanDiego
Last month we were able to go on a family trip with my entire immediate family, and it has been a while since our last one, so we were all really excited, and it was totally epic. We decided on San Diego, for a good balance of beach and non-beach activities and somewhere where we could take a baby. It was the perfect decision! The flight there was a little rough with a overtired and stuffy nose baby trying to equalize the pressure in his ears, but other than that he was a perfect trooper the whole time, no matter where we dragged him.
Elliott was able to meet some of his aunts and uncles for the first time, and reunite with those he'd already met. And Grandma and Grandpa were able to get a good dose of their only grandchild again for a while. We celebrated Mother's Day, went to Balboa Park, San Diego zoo, Safari Park, kayaking at La Jolla, boogie boarded on the waves, went bike riding at the beach, went to the small amusement park by our hotel, and of course, ate some really delicious food.
I loved being able to spend time with my family, who I don't get to see often because we are so far away, and also because travel when pregnant and with a newborn is difficult. Since I'm going to include a billion pics, I'll stop there :)
In other news: Nate took his 2nd Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) exam last week. He didn't find out he passed the 1st one until February, so he didn't have much time to study (especially with a newborn!) but he decided to go for it, so he's been studying on his commute to and from work each day and taking a 3 hour evening course every week. It's an extremely rigorous exam and I'm super proud of that smarty pants for being able to balance being a great new dad, working hard at his job, and also studying for that! But I'm SOOO glad he has a break from it for the next 6 months until he has to start studying again for the next exam (which could be the 2nd exam all over again if he failed or the 3rd exam if he passed). We won't hear back for a couple of months and most people fail the 2nd or 3rd test at least once but we'll see! He's even more excited about a break than me! After the exam, we went out to eat at Yankee Lobster Company to celebrate, where we lost Elliott's precious giraffe pacifier, but don't worry, we went back and they found it for us... in the trash!! :) (A non-food trash though, so we just washed it and called it good). That thing is worth way more than it cost, because it is the only way we can get Elliott to sleep and right now
sleep >>>>>>$$.
Elliott update: He is now laughing, sometimes rolling over, although not often, he can sit up on his own in a tripod formation, but not without his hands yet, he's an awesome stander, with some help, he loves shoving his feet in his mouth now, in addition to his hands, he is learning so much and is so much more aware of everything going on around him! I'm in love with this stage! He also sucks at sleeping, day and night, and the death of his swing isn't helping, but we are doing some serious sleep training this week, so hopefully it will get better soon. He's had an eternal cold, that is actually several viruses in succession (thank you day care) but I am hopeful one day soon he will not have a cough, although that day is not yet. We introduced some solid foods to him which he is really getting the hang of and usually loves. I've read lots of studies about how earlier introduction of allergenic foods actually helps prevent food allergies, so being allergic to tree nuts myself as well as addicted to peanut butter, I'm all about making sure he has no allergies. But milk is still his favorite food! Also, he had to have his lip tie and tongue tie surgery redone because they partially reattached. So, torturing him is still the worst thing ever, and we have to keep doing it for several more weeks, so that is REALLY lame. Other than that though, he is constantly smiley and happy and we couldn't be more in love!
