The REALLY big move

For the last part of our time in Utah, Kathryn spent a little time every day packing up our stuff, hoping it would not leave us doing it all the day before.  But even with that preparation it wasn't too successful; we still stayed up until 5:30 am packing the night before the movers came.  We had a tiny little apartment, so it was incredible that we ever fit that much stuff in it.  We thought for sure we had way more stuff than an average 1 bedroom apt. couple had, but when we asked the movers they said it was a pretty normal amount of stuff for people our age in a 1 bedroom. After the movers packed all of our stuff we checked out of Mt. Shadows forever. (Not too sad about leaving that apartment complex, but it was really sad to leave our friends and family in Utah).  Having the movers take all of our stuff freed us up to take a relaxing route and visit lots of cool places on the drive. We started the 5 day trip with a visit to cafe rio, to meet up with my mission friends, and experience the food for the last time since they don't have it here in Boston. Llizi doesn't particularly like driving (she gets car sick) so she spent most of her time underneath the seat.  We, however, did enjoy it, and made it a vacation since we might not get another for a while.

After the first day of driving we stayed in Laramie, WY.  Wyoming is everything it is cracked up to be (aka, a whole lot of nothing)  so we didn't stay to do much while we were there.  Our goal every night was to spend ~$60 on hotels, which we stuck to and so none of them were glamorous, and some were pretty ghetto, but nothing too sketchy.  The next day we did make one stop in WY to see Gillette, where Kathryn's little brother is currently serving on his mission.  We were hoping to see him there, but even though his ZL's though he'd probably be able to, his mission president didn't approve it.  We did, however, stop by his apartment (when we knew he wouldn't be there) to take a picture at his door. We then got it developed and left it on his doorstep.  It seemed like a bigger place than we had imagined, and a good place to be serving.  We also drove by the outlying towns that he has mentioned that he sometimes visits.

That day we entered South Dakota and went through Custer State Park; it had tall, interesting rocks that overlooked an impressive valley of trees. We wound our way through to Mount Rushmore just in time to see it before the sun went down and the lighting ceremony began. They played a movie about the making of Mt. Rushmore and the 4 presidents engraved there and then light up the stone with a spotlight. The next day we just drove across South Dakota and Minnesota. Then we visited Minneapolis and saw Kathryn's college friend in Milwaukee. In Chicago we paid way too much for parking, ate amazing pizza, and saw one of my college friends that lives there now. That evening, a little after leaving Chicago, we got a call from our movers that they would be in Boston to unpack us sooner than we thought. So the next morning we woke up earlier and didn't see anymore sights and just drove 15 hours to Boston.

The move went okay and we are finally unpacked and settled into our new apartment on the third floor of a house. The view is nice since it's mostly surrounded by trees with a little view of some skyscrapers and a beautiful Orthodox church across the street. The weather has been perfect here and we are enjoying the last week of summer before work and school start the day after Labor Day.

Next time we will include our Boston adventures and pics of the new apt.
