We are Thankful
A few weeks ago, Nate's mom came to Boston for a medical conference, so we were able to spend some time in the city with her. We went to see the blue man group, which was a really awesome experience. I hadn't heard too much about them, but loved it. It was very funny and unique entertainment. We were also able to go to church with her and out to eat a couple times. It was our first visitor in Boston and it was great, so everyone else should also come!
Boston Public Library has a special deal that you can get museum passes in advance for free or discounted prices. We used the library deal to go to the Franklin Park Zoo a few weeks ago. It is already getting cold so they didn't have all the animals there, but it was still really fun. Our favorite part was the gorillas, which were incredibly playful and would play tag and hug each other. Next we are going to get passes to the aquarium.
Since we went to Nate's sister's house in Maryland for Thanksgiving, and we're going to Tennessee for Christmas, we aren't getting the chance to see too much boston holiday stuff, so we went to the annual Boston Faneuil Hall Tree Lighting a couple weeks ago. I was expecting them to just light up the tree and that be it, but they actually had the lights correspond to a music show. This is a video of it, starting at minute 1:20. Afterward we stayed and did some early christmas shopping around the marketplace.
For thanksgiving we were able to go to Maryland to see Nate's sister and her family, Nate's parents also came, so it was a great time to spend with family. As always, the girls are ridiculously adorable. When we arrived (after a red eye train ride) we got this welcome sign:
We also got to see one of my best college friends for the first time in over a year, which was SOOO good. We went out on the town (DC) for some brunch and to the museum of natural history, and she spent the day with us for Thanksgiving too.
We had a great thanksgiving dinner, complete with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, rolls, and my addition was some pies. We had some intense board game playing, showing everyone Nate's and my competitive side.
Friday we went to Annapolis for some lunch and to a ceramic painting shop. Nate and I made a snowman decoration, and the girls made a jet, a puppy, and a princess, They refer to them as their "breakable toys" hopefully as an acknowledgment that they are fragile, not that they are planning on breaking them.
We also got to go see Catching Fire, the new hunger games movie, which I have been excited to see for a while, and really loved it. Even better than the book!
Yesterday we watched the girls at their gymnastics class do some pretty intense rolling, somersaults, and walking on the balance beam. And we were able to help with the christmas tree decorations. Finally, we caught another red eye train back, and arrived at 8:25 this morning, just in time for 9 am church.
It was such a great vacation and it will be hard to get back into the swing of things, but it's not too long before christmas break! This week we are going to get our tree (probably 2 1/2 ft. tall, but real!) So we'll post some pics of the decorations once they are up!
Also, I've seen lots of people on facebook listing each day of november things they are thankful for. I'm not that consistent of a facebook post-er, but I wanted to make a similar list to show gratitude during this Thanksgiving season. I'll try not to make it too cheesy, or too long.
1) Getting to see friends and family during Thanksgiving break
2) Not being sick (like Nate is)
3) Netflix
4) Great pumpkin recipes
5) New England fall
6) Getting to learn about stuff I love at school
7) Mac and Cheese (I actually really love it, as long as its the real kraft stuff, not the off brands)
8) Smartphones with GPS to drive around Boston
9) Getting to live in coolest city ever
10) A super cute, sweet husband
11) Hunger Games movies
12) Getting to the T station right before the train leaves
13) Ice cream (Breyer's Reeses Peanut Butter Cup)
14) Heat, and down comforters
15) Pretty places to go running nearby (which I don't take advantage of very often)
16) Amazon super free shipping
17) Christmas-excuse for shopping because I'm giving the purchases away
(in no particular order)
